Abstract

Acute Respiratory Tract Infection (ARTI) is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality, particularly among children. The prevalence of ARTI in Indonesia remains relatively high, including in West Nusa Tenggara, and it is often the primary reason for patient visits to healthcare facilities. Antibiotics are the mainstay of therapy; however, their use is frequently irrational, posing a significant risk of resistance. Therefore, evaluating antibiotic usage patterns is crucial. The objective of this study was to determine the profile of antibiotic use at Dasan Tapen Public Health Center in 2024 and to analyze the Defined Daily Dose (DDD) values from the evaluation of antibiotic use, focusing on the quantitative level of utilization in pediatric ARTI patients. This study employed a retrospective cross-sectional design using medical record data. A total of 121 samples that met the inclusion criteria from the period January–December 2024 were analyzed using the ATC/DDD method. The findings showed three types of antibiotics were prescribed: amoxicillin (79.3%), cefadroxil (19.0%), and cefixime (1.7%). The total DDD/1000 patient-days was 214.64, indicating a relatively high level of antibiotic use during the study period.
